Witness C informed the Madlanga Commission that on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, Matlala admitted into paying approximately half a million (R500 000) towards Suspended Police Minister, Mchunu’s campaign.
This amount of money was utilized on flights, accommodation and logistics for the ANC’s celebrations in Cape Town, 8th January 2025.
Witness C revealed to the Commission that Matlala had said that Mchunu has presidential ambitions. Matlala did not believe that Mchunu would win but did not want to discourage him either.
The witness claimed that after police had comppleted their raid of Matlala’s home in Pretoria, Gauteng, on 6th December 2024, Mchunu had made use of his contacts to hinder the investigative progress. At this time, police were in search of renowned businessman, Jerry Boshoga.
Witness C revealed that Mchunu “engaged security operatives” to identify officers who have been involved in raiding Matlala’s private property, by making use of grabber surveillance devices.
Businessman and Information peddler, formally known as “Brown Mogotsi” allegedly provided Matlala with registration details of all police vehicles in the Crime intelligence team which was led by Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo.
Following this revelation, claims of Mchunu and Mogotsi advising Matlala to open a theft case in Brooklyn Police Station had started to emerge, claiming that a firearm, a Rolex watch and other valuable items had been stolen as the raid took place in Matlala’s home.
The theft was later on withdrawn and no longer pursued. Witness C further claimed that Matlala disclosed his links to Deputy National Commissionaer Shadrack Sibiya and suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, Matlala also claims that he had been used as a “puppet” to target Khumalo.
Exposed WhatsApp chats suggested that Matlala communicated with both Brown Mogotsi and Mchunu about possible legal action to take place and about the fallout.
Khumalo testified a month ago that Matlala poured funds into Mchunu’s delegates for attending ANC events and paid Mogotsi large amounts of money who apparently “worked underground” to sabotage ongoing investigations and leak police intelligence information.
According to Khumalo, the leaked messages assisted Matlala in securing a state contract worth R360 Million.
Investigators recovered Whatsapp text messages from Matlala’s cellular device showing instructions from Brown Mogotsi in terms of payments for cash transfers and flight bookings, inclusive of R38 000 to Gotlhe specialists.
The ANC mentioned that it would only comment after having received formal reports from the Commission itself. Madlanga Commission continues to receive testimonials from the witness.
