MK Party's president Jacob Zuma address members of the party ahead local government election.
The newly formed uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK Party) embarked on a road show motorcade at Kwamashu, in KZN, on Sunday, 7 January. Speaking with the Daily Sun, Thami Ntuli the MK’s provincial organizer, said people lost hope in President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) is not happy with the newly formed MK, as the name belongs to its military wing, which was formed during apartheid South Africa. ANC formed the MK to deal with the apartheid white rule government. The ANC’s MK operated within the country and outside; its members received military training from Russia.

Former President Jacob Zuma announced his interest in the party in December 2023 in Soweto. The party is now registered with the Electoral Commission (IEC). The ANC alliance SACP General Secretary, Solly Mapila, says Zuma’s name was used by those who hide under his name to gather support for their interest. According to the ANC constitution, Zuma could be expelled from the ANC. Rule 25 of the ANC’s constitution gives the ANC powers to institute disciplinary measures against him.
The Rule states that any party member who has joined or supported another political organization that’s not aligned with the party may face disciplinary measures.
While speaking with the media in Mbombela, the ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said the party will soon announce its decision on the matter.
