William Lai Ching- te elected president of Taiwan.
DPP won Taiwan election– Taipei- The Taiwan’s ruling party Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won the Saturday election, this was announced by Taiwan’s Central Election Commission (CEC). The DPP manager to won with just 40%. This will make it harder for Lai Ching- te to implement his party policies.
Speaking with CNN, Taiwan’s incoming president, William Lai Ching-te. Stated that, “this is a night that belongs to Taiwan. We managed to keep Taiwan on the map of the world”.
According to CEC more than 14 million people took part of participating in the votes. Many says the election it a self prove to China that Taiwan is a sovereignty state with its own constitutional functionality.
Japanese foreign minister Yoko Kamikana released a statement congratulating Taiwan success for holding a peaceful election, in a statement he stated that, “for Japan, Taiwan is an important friend, with which it shares fundamental values and people to people exchanges. The government of Japan will work towards further depending cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Taiwan, based on its position to maintain working relationship on the non- governmental basis”, she says.
U.S President Joe Biden said on Saturday that the U.S does not support the independence of Taiwan. “We do not support independence. It would be unacceptable for any country to interfere in the election”, he said.
The U.S secretary of state Anthony Blinken, also congratulated Lai and his party, he said Taiwan demonstrate the strength of their robust democratic system and electoral process. ” We are conflicted that Taiwan will continue to serve as an example for all who strive for freedom, democracy, and prosperity”.
China condemned the Blinken congratulating Lai Ching-te, they said he just a leader in a small small region. While addressing his supporters in Taipei Lai Chai-te said to China between democracy and autocracy he decide to stand with democracy.
