(The Post News)- World leaders are meeting at the World Economic Forum– 2024 (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss the most challenging problems facing the world today. The leaders are meeting at the most challenging moment in the history of humankind, where the world is faced with geopolitical instability and the bad economic conditions prevailing in most parts of the world.
The 54th meeting convenes under the theme, “Rebuilding Trust”. The Israel-Gaza conflict and the Ukraine war are topics dominating the agenda. However, the Russian-Ukrainian war continues to populate the 54th meeting as it did in the 53rd meeting. Houthi rebels’ attacks on ships and vessels in the Red Sea have been a worrying factor; leaders gathering in Davos continue to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Yesterday Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister, Falisal bin Farhan Al Saud said while in WEF meeting, that the attack to ships- vessels on the Red sea by Houthi is link to the war in Gaza. He said the Saudi’s priority is to find a path to de-escalation through ceasefire fire.
Commenting on both Taiwan’s election and Israel-Gaza conflict, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on CNBC in Davos on Wednesday. “China’s growing aggression towards Taiwan has undermined the country’s own interests. ” I think the approach that they’ve shown in recent years has actually been totally counterproductive to their interests”, Blinken stated on CNBC.
Post Taiwan’s election, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on January 14, stating that, “the Taiwan question is at the very core of China’s core interests and the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations. The one-China principle is a basic norm in international relations”, the statement noted.
On the Israel-Gaza conflict, Blinken said a Palestinian state has to be established, “suffering we are seeing among innocent men, women, and children breaks my heart”, said Blinken.
