Rebecca’s Major Donation to Rise Mzansi
Rebecca Oppenheimer, the granddaughter of De Beers founder and former chair of the diamond company Harry Oppenheimer, has donated R15 million to newly registered political party RISE Mzansi. Rebecca is a board member of the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust, in which she is capable to contribute to her family’s philanthropic endeavors in South Africa.
Rebecca’s Role in Ethical Political Funding
The party said it has received additionally donations from Main Street, which gave it R1 Million, and from Jozi Design and Kairo Communications, which contributed R160 000 and R559 000. Respectively, bringing the whole donation in total to R16,7 million in funding since its formation.
Rise Mzansi’s chief organiser Makashule Gana said they don’t just accept donations from anyone.
“We also do not accept donations in which we suspect the reveals may be the proceeds of crime, or in which prospective donors want to unduly have an effect on our policies, politics and decision making process,” he added.
“All our existing donors aid us because they believe in our commitment to build safe. Prosperous, equal, and united country where people live in happiness and dignity in one generation. They also accept the conditions set out above,”Gana concluded.
Political parties ought to declare donations above R100 000 and up to R15 million under the political party funding Act.
Rebecca is not any stranger to the world of politics and philanthropy. She had previously been a massive supporter of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Action SA, over the last few years.
While, Rebecca is looking to improve the lives of communities in South Africa, she recently took
part in project where she helped advance drain harvesting vertical gardening system that
aims to contribute to better nutrition programs in under-resourced communities.
The leader of Rise Mzansi Songezo Zibi said that the party was setting out to organising, mobilising, and empowering the citizens to build a country where are free and enable to pursue happiness and well-being.
During the manifesto release, the party called on the president to prioritize school safety. It also stated that it was committed to eradicate poverty, ending racism, ending inequality, and ensuring the employment of our people.
