South Africa takes Israel to ICJ over Gaza genocide case.
Opinion – Zizipho Sonaba
I developed an interest in the web of international politics, and it became evident that the alliance between the United States and Israel is not just a geopolitical convenience but a strategic imperative, especially in the volatile landscape of the Middle East.
My perspective is rooted in an understanding of the Israel-Gaza conflict, with a particular focus on the Rafah region, which sheds light on the significance of having Israel as a steadfast ally. Examining the Israel-Gaza conflict, it is apparent that the region, especially Rafah, has been a flash point for tensions.
The geopolitical dynamics surrounding Rafah underscore the need for stability and a reliable ally. In my observation, the conflict’s complexities make it imperative for the United States to align itself with a nation that not only shares its democratic values but also possesses a robust military capability to navigate the tumultuous Middle Eastand I mean hey, it is a Jewish constructed country just like the
U.S after all but we’ll get into that another time.
The strategic importance of Rafah lies not only in its geographical location but also in its historical context, serving as a gateway between Israel and the Gaza Strip. As I observe the tensions in this region, it becomes clear that a reliable ally is crucial to safeguarding American interests and promoting stability.
Israel, with its well-established military prowess and intelligence capabilities, emerges as a partner capable of addressing the intricacies of the Middle East. Just to give a brief history of how the Jews came to occupy the then Palestine, in the early 20thcentury, Jewish immigrants arrived in the Ottoman-controlled Palestine.
The Zionist movement aimed to establish a Jewish homeland, gaining momentum with the 1917 Balfour Declaration.
After World War 2, international support grew leading to the 1947 UN partition plan to separate the Jewish and Arab states in Palestine, i.e., Apartheid. The Arabs were not keen on the idea hence the Arab-Israeli war waged in 1948.
The Jews accepting this plan is how Israel came to be and how it is today innocently killing of Palestinians every hour, minutes, and seconds.
