The Limpopo police are currently investigating an incident where a three-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by two nine-year-old boys while they were playing at Nywenani ya ha Themeli near Sibasa in Thohoyandau. This incident occurred on Saturday, March 9th.
According to a statement from the South African Police Service (SAPS), the victim’s mother reported that her young daughter had been playing with other children and later returned home feeling uncomfortable in her private area. The girl then informed her mother about the pain and disclosed that she had been raped by two boys while playing. Shaken by her daughter’s shocking revelation, the mother immediately sought medical help, which confirmed that her daughter was indeed assaulted. With a heavy heart, the victim’s mother reported the incident to the police, stating that two boys, both nine years old, had allegedly assaulted her daughter. The case was subsequently transferred to the specialized unit responsible for investigating Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that they have started involving a Probation Officer and Social Worker in a case that involves both minors as the victim and the alleged perpetrator. This is because of the sensitive nature of the case. The Provincial Commissioner expressed shock and emphasized the importance of teaching children about the consequences of their actions.
The SAPS Provincial Commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Hadebe, stated that young individuals are increasingly being subjected to sexualization and abuse, both from adults and other children. Parents must provide their children with heightened care and continuously protect their future, as well as monitor their exposure to harmful influences.
The authorities are currently investigating the alleged assault of a young girl. A Social Worker will assist in the investigation of the rape case involving the girl. Such cases of assaults, particularly against minors, are increasingly problematic in Limpopo. Last year, a 12-year-old boy allegedly raped a three-year-old girl while they were playing in Tshilifi Village, Thohoyandou. The consequences of this investigation, regardless of the outcome, will have long-lasting effects on both the victim and the perpetrator, which is deeply concerning for future generations. Children should be engaging in activities like playing with books and toys, rather than being involved in these horrific acts.
