Sbusiso Leope, famously known as DJ Sbu, is a media personality who has been in the game and has done it all. From producing instant house classics like “Everything happens for a reason,” introducing and nurturing new, up-and-coming talent like Zahara, and radio and television presenting, After being away for years, he is back on our radio waves.
After leaving radio nearly a decade ago to pursue other endeavours, he is back on radio, hosting the NoNameBreakfast show every Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Radio 2000. The sudden announcement and contract signing this past week sparked mixed reactions from fans and people alike. One went as far as putting forth a statement that they thought DJ Sbu would never go back to radio, especially at the SABC.Â
Recalling that he was fired from the SABC back in 2015 while he was a presenter of the popular SABC 1 game show “Friends Like These” and simultaneously a Metro FM show presenter,.
Having recently come forth and opened up in 2023, asserting that he reckoned he was fired by the giant for advertising his then-newcomer energy drink, Mofaya, came without permission. This transpired at the 2015 Metro Awards, when he held the can while presenting an award and later posted pictures of the moment. The awards night led to his being suspended, and then, later, from all his SABC jobs, something he said he looked back on and admired the kind of bravery he showed.
This, however, was just a setback for DJ Sbu. Even since his dismissal from the SABC, he has grown his Mofaya brand exponentially, started a podcast, The Hustler’s Corner, and made many business ventures, including a partnership with Revolt TV, which is an international company owned by famous American artist and business mogul P Diddy. Now back to where it all began for him: radio, where he has thrived over the years.
First hosting the show on the 1st of April, then during the show announcing that he was not coming back to the radio, it was just an April fool joke. Leaving fans confused, however, fans tuned in again on April 2 and were delighted to hear him on air again, confirming he really is back on the radio and is with Radio 2000. With his first two appearances on the show making it the most trending radio breakfast show in the country, it is safe to say he is back, and he is back with a bang where he belongs.
The Mofaya energy drink brand owner and ambassador will be alongside Nathi Ndamase and Lelo Mzaca. This comes after the previous host, Glen Lewis, resigned.
