(The Post News) – Israel intends to respond to the Iranian attack, but the specific details of how it will be carried out remain unclear. This retaliation is in response to Iran’s warning, urging to carefully consider any action taken in response to Iran’s attack that occurred on Saturday, April 13th.
The IDF has been asked to present additional options to decision-makers. The official confirmed that among the considerations were whether Israel needed to retaliate immediately or could afford to wait, and what impact any escalation against Iran would have on Israeli operations in Gaza.
President Joe Biden said that after he had publicly reinforced his administration’s ironclad commitment to Israel’s defense, he had privately expressed concern that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to drag Washington into a broader conflict. Top officials in the United States are worried that Israel may respond hastily to Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attacks and provoke a wider regional conflict that the U.S. could get dragged into.
IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said, “Israel is in a very significant 24-hour period and appears to be carefully weighing its next steps in response to Iran’s attack. Operational plans have been approved for both offensive and defensive actions. The operations will continue in Gaza, and additional reserves will be called to join the fighting.”
Based on the statement from the government official in the prime minister’s office on Sunday, April 14th, no decision was made on exactly what will be done, but the IDF will need to present options, and it will respond. The official said after an hour-long war cabinet meeting, Israel will respond; the question is when and at what scale. Along with an international coalition that includes the U.S., the U.K., and France, they thwarted 350 exploding drones, rockets, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.
Hagari said, “Iran’s goal throughout the war has been to escalate the region. So far, they have achieved this by working through proxies. As Israel strategizes its response, the highest priority is the rescue of the 133 hostages currently held captive by Hamas. We are fully committed to seizing every opportunity to bring them back home, as it is our responsibility”.
