(The Post News) – Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital officials have reported that fourteen people, including seven children, were among the casualties resulting from Israeli airstrikes in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp located in central Gaza. The incident took place on Tuesday, April 16th. Sadly, this is not the initial airstrike endangering the lives of children, as highlighted by Catherine Russell, the Executive Director of UNICEF. Shockingly, the war, which commenced on October 7, has already claimed the lives of more than 13,800 children in Gaza.
The UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women said, “In Gaza, a child is injured or dies every 10 minutes.” They also reported that since the war began, more than 10,000 women have been killed in Gaza, leaving behind 19,000 orphaned children, with 6,000 of these women being responsible for the orphaned children.
In a report by Jennifer Hauser, a graphic video from eyewitness Nihad Owdetallah showed several casualties scattered on the floor, including children, with blood streaming around the area. In the video, dozens of people appear to be running around in panic, screaming, and trying to count and carry the dead bodies. A foosball table covered in dust is seen among the dead bodies.
Footage filmed by CNN inside Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital depicted a steady stream of casualties and injured individuals being guided into the emergency room. The room was packed with patients, including multiple wounded children who cried out while lying on the floor. Grieving family members hovered over the lifeless bodies of their loved ones, kissing them, clinging to them, and sobbing.
There has been an incident in a refugee camp, and the Israeli military said that it is currently under review. This comes after Iran attacked Israel on Saturday night. Some people are questioning whether Israel’s decision to attack Gaza during ceasefire negotiations is a retaliation against Iran. Despite the G7 leaders urging both sides to avoid further conflict, Israel seems determined to retaliate against Iran. Meanwhile, amidst the chaos of war, families are mourning loved ones, and children are left without parents.
On Wednesday, April 17th, following the attack, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, expressed his concern regarding the ongoing international mediation efforts led by Qatar. These efforts aim to facilitate an agreement for the release of hostages and establish a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
