(The Post News)– Over the past weekend, South Africans enjoyed watching the Nedbank semi-finals, where Stellenbosch FC hosted the Wafa Wafa with Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, Eastern Cape. On Sunday, Chippa United welcomed Orlando Pirates at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape for their Wafa Wafa clash. The host teams were all beaten; Stellies were beaten 2-1, and Chippa was 3-1.
Despite wins and losses, the Stellies versus Sundowns game caught the attention of fans over network citizens (Netizens). They believe Stellenbosch was robbed, and Mamelodi Sundowns bought officials to officiate in their favor. Moloto Junior Tumi, one of the netizens, stated on Facebook that “Sundowns are overrated; they can’t win a game without referees helping them. It’s a shame. Yes, they play good football, but they are not winning without controversy.” A referee assistant was spotted on television acting unwell when a Sundowns player aimed a bad tackle, especially Divine Lungu, mostly rough at Devine Titus.
The actions came after he judged him for holding Titus in the face, stopping a promising attack, and he was booked with a yellow card. Then he was dribbled and played dirty again, and the referee assistant was seriously injured. Medical attention was in place, and Lungu was taken out before he could get a double-booked yellow card, making it red. He also added that when they beat the Chiefs 5-1, Maema got away with a red card. Then came the Stellenbosch game; Lungu got away too, and a goal was also denied.
“This will make the Nedbank final intense because officials won’t take nonsense knowing they have been benefiting,” Tumi added to this worrisome statement. “Stellies were supposed to get a goal; Rayners there scored a beautiful goal… We see Rayner receive the ball, and he then scores. Was it offside or not? We will draw a line here to tell whether he was indeed offside or onside,” said Victor Hungwani on Soccer Zone. Hungwani concludes by saying, “So the line will help us; we see that there is a player there who puts Rayners onside. So this player puts Rayners onside; here, the goal should have been allowed. Because there is no offside as there is an opponent nearer to his goal line as per the offside law.”
Netizens have all the right to be furious, as analysts have confirmed that Stellenbosch was robbed. They went to the extent of revealing a getaway for a booking on the Kaizer Chiefs game for a foul.
