(The Post News)– Football Club is a team from Moletši, Kgabo Park outside Polokwane in Limpopo. They have won the Motsepe Foundation Championship title with two games in hand. They earned an automatic promotion to participate in the DSTv Premiership, commonly known as the Premier Soccer League, for the coming 2024–25 season.
The team sealed automatic promotion last Sunday when they beat Milford FC 3-1. Magesi sits in the pole position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings with 55 points after the Sunday defeat. They are left with two games to finish the tournament with a difference of eight points from the second team on the log, the University of Pretoria (Tuks).
“I listen to the team (coach Larsen and his technical staff), and where I need to suggest, I do so, but the final decision comes from the management and the coach, not just me. The mandate was for them to win the league via straight promotion, not playoffs,” said Magesi FC Chairman Solly Makhubela, speaking to FARPost.
Magesi adds the number of teams from Limpopo in the DSTv Primership Soccer League. It is the third team, following Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City. They might be four if Baroka follows suit by being able to play and win the playoffs. The victory of the Motsepe Foundation Championship does not only go to the team. Coach Clinton Larsen is also getting credit and adding to his profile.
He is a former football player and coached several clubs, including Polokwane City, before coming to Magesi. Local football fans from Limpopo have congratulated the club on winning the MFD title. Posts and comments were shared on social media, showing recognition and appreciation. A comment from Kgabo on X (Twitter) expressed support from Seshego, Mashashane, and other parts of Polokwane. The nature of football is to unite and instigate peace.
