(The Post News)– An unnamed Israeli official argued that Israel will continue its attack operation in Rafah, including the Gaza Strip. The announcement from the official comes after US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday, May 8, that they will no longer supply weapons to Israel and artillery shells if it means the Israeli military invades Rafah.
He added that America would stop supplying arms to Israel if it attacked the Gaza city of Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where at least 1 million people are sheltering. If the Israeli military launches a ground attack in Rafah, the administration will not supply. The progress would mark a shift in U.S. policy toward the war; however, Biden argued that the U.S. would still go ahead to make sure Israel was secure in terms of the Iron Dome and their capability to respond to attacks.
Biden added that Israel has used the 2,000-pound bombs of the type his administration stopped in a planned shipment last week to murder Palestinian civilians. Chief armed forces spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said Israel’s military has the missiles that will be required for the operations.
The Israeli prime minister stated in a video statement that they will continue to attack even if they have to stand alone. They will not back away, even if they have to use fingernails to achieve their goal of destroying Hamas.
Israel states Rafah is Hamas’s last stronghold in Gaza, which is why they are determined to eliminate four battalions of fighters that seem to be hiding there. However, Mr. Netanyahu has not instructed his troops to enter the southern city. On the other hand, Israeli tanks and warplanes bombarded areas of Rafah. The attacks were launched on Thursday, May 9.
Hamas and another Palestinian militant group, Islamic Jihad, said their soldiers fired anti-tank rockets and mortars at Israeli tanks assembled on the eastern outskirts of the city.
The US president also responded to the suspension of the shipment that was meant to be sent to Israel. His response was that civilians have been murdered in Gaza as a result of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centres. The US State Department states that a major attack on Rafah would shake Israel’s position in hostage talks.
Washington is debating the Israeli amendments to a ceasefire proposal submitted by Hamas, state department spokesperson Matthew Miller said, adding they were working to finalise the text of an agreement, although Netanyahu has rejected the Hamas proposal. They hoped that they would come to an agreement and accept the deal proposed by Hamas. As the negotiations in Egypt are continuing,
