(The Post News) Early Tuesday morning in Pretoria, rescuers from Tshwane EMS made a disturbing find: two decomposed bodies hidden in a lift shaft. They came across this grim scene while trying to save a man who had fallen into the same shaft. The discovery shocked the community, prompting an immediate investigation and turning the building into a crime scene.
The rescue operation began on Tuesday at 4:32 a.m., according to Charles Mabaso, the spokesperson for the Tshwane Emergency Service Department. “It became more challenging for the emergency team when they encountered decomposed remains in the water as they were attempting to reach the person who had fallen,” Mabaso explained that the team had initially received a report about a fire at the intersection of Bosman and Pretorius Street. However, upon arriving at the scene, they were confronted with the unsettling sight of the decomposed remains.
With precision, the team cut through the shaft door and descended with a ladder to reach the man, whose identity remains undisclosed. Fortunately, they managed to retrieve him safely. Currently, he’s under medical care, receiving treatment for his injuries, and has been transported to a hospital in stable condition. However, details regarding the cause of death remain elusive, leaving many questions unanswered. It’s unclear how long the bodies had been concealed within the shaft before their grim discovery. Investigations are underway, with forensic examinations in progress to uncover the identities of the bodies and determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.Â
Authorities are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and prevent similar incidents from happening again, providing reassurance to the public. Charles Mabaso said, “The police are actively investigating the cause of death for the two victims and the injured parties.” As this distressing case unfolds, further updates will be shared, shedding light on new developments as they arise.
