It has been an underdog and striving, and then this year it got promoted to CAF. Stellies FC will play in Africa next season. Their fans are proud and have backed coach Steve Barker for delivering the club promotion to CAF next season. It is the second team on the PSL log with 50 points; Mamelodi Sundowns is the first, and the Orlando Pirates are at number three.
The team took it to Twitter (X) to celebrate the assurance of going to Africa the next season, despite their 2-nil loss on Sunday hosted by Moroka Swallows for PSL. They did not lose the 2nd position in the log standings because the Buccaneers followed it, losing to Richards Bay 1 nil at Orlando Stadium. Briefly News reported that their source stated that the Maroons players are disappointed to have ended their unbeaten streak against Swallows while securing Champions football is their primary goal.
Stellebosch has two games to finish the league, and a top three still secures them promotion to CAF, should they lose the 2nd position to the Pirates. They will get promoted to the CAF because the Pirates and Sundowns are already in the CAF Champions League.
The Maroons are ahead of the Orlando Pirates by 50 to 49 points. A Briefly News source further reported that losing to Swallows hit the Maroons a bit; they need to buckle down to finish second because playing in Africa will make them even stronger. Proud Stellies fans also took to social media to support their side in qualifying for Africa after breaking the PSL record. However, the team is left to play with PSL Champions Mamelodi Sundowns on May 18 and Richards Bay on May 30, wrapping up the DStv Premiership.
