(The Post News)– A swift response by the Tshwane police led to the arrest of two business robbers and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm in Mamelodi. on Wednesday, May 15, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk communication Coordinator, of Tshwane District, said the American Swiss Jewellery shop was robbed in the Bronkhorstspruit policing area where several items were stolen.
The following day on May 16, police officers received information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects and the stolen goods.
He said a multidisciplinary team, which included members from SAPS, Proshield Security, Nightguard, and Tracker, was assembled and mobilised in Mamelodi to trace the suspects. A white Toyota sedan, which was used in the robbery, was traced along with a suspect. Several stolen items from the robbery were also recovered. The suspect was interviewed, leading the team to another address in Mamelodi, where a second suspect was arrested. An unlicensed firearm and more stolen goods were recovered.
Moreover, a silver Kia hatchback reported stolen in Lyttelton in December 2022, was found in his possession.
He added that items recovered include several cell phones, stolen motor vehicles, an unlicensed firearm, and goods taken in the robbery.
Additionally, the suspect was discovered to have a silver Kia Picanto that had been reported stolen in Lyttelton in December 2022.
Officer Van Dyk said that among the things found were several cell phones, stolen vehicles that have been reported stolen, an unregistered firearm, and merchandise that was taken during the heist.
The recovered firearm will be sent through ballistic tests to determine whether the firearm was used in other crimes.

In another incident of this month, the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has commanded a team of district detectives who worked together with detectives from Tshwane and FNB Security officials to arrest 11 suspects linked to road spiking incidents in the district earlier this month.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said one of the suspects charged the police with a firearm, and the police shot at him. He was declared dead at the scene.
On May 11 the police received information on the whereabouts of suspects responsible for road spiking incidents on the N1, N4 and R80 in Tshwane district as well as robberies related to online shopping. The team went to a house which was also used to operate an illegal shebeen where they confronted 10 male suspects as well as the woman running the shebeen.
She said five of the suspects, including the deceased, will be charged with several counts of rape and armed robbery while the woman will be charged with contravening the immigration act and operating an illegal shebeen.
Investigators are underway to link the rest of the suspects with cases of robberies related to online shopping as well as road spiking incidents. The police seized a replica firearm and alcohol.
“I am pleased with the dedication and commitment shown by the team that has been working around the clock to ensure that they hunt down and arrest the suspects who have been terrorising the community. The arrest of these suspects will help us to close a lot of cases which are related to road spiking and online shopping,” said Lieutenant General Mthombeni.
The suspects will appear before the various courts in Pretoria.
