(The Post News)– In recent developments, two additional suspects have been apprehended in connection with the tragic murder of five-year-old Ditebogo Junior Phalane.
The young boy lost his life during a hijacking incident that occurred just outside his family’s home in Soshanguve.
Ditebogo Phalane was shot and killed when his father became the victim of a hijacking. The heart-wrenching incident took place earlier this month, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The innocent child had stepped out of the house to welcome his father home from work when the armed assailants struck.
On Monday two more individuals were taken into custody, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to four.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has been diligently investigating the case, and their efforts have led to the arrest of four suspects thus far.
According to police reports, the newly apprehended suspects were located in Soshanguve and Atteridgeville, respectively.
Authorities have also recovered a firearm believed to be the murder weapon, which will undergo testing as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We are committed to bringing justice for young Ditebogo Phalane,” stated SAPS spokesperson, Morena Moleko.
“Our investigative team has worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend those responsible for this terrible crime. These recent arrests are a significant step forward in our pursuit of justice,” She added.
During the funeral service for Ditebogo, the headmaster of the preschool he attended shared heartfelt memories of the little boy.
“Junior was in our exit year in 2024, we were aware that this was his last year, but the manner of his departure caught us off guard. Junior lived, he learned, he created memories, and we created history. He was only five years old but had already travelled to other countries, including Africa,” said the pre-school headmaster.
The community has expressed both relief and mistrust in the justice system. While the arrests provide hope for closure, many remain doubtful about whether justice will truly prevail for Ditebogo Phalane.
As the investigation continues, the nation mourns the loss of an innocent child and hopes that those responsible will face the full consequences of their actions.
