DR Congo’s New Government Cabinet Announced After two Months’ Delay

The new cabinet comprises 54 ministers, a reduction from the previous 57.

Among the key appointments is Prime Minister Judith Sumonwa Tuluka, who became Congo’s first female prime minister in early April.

Under the new leadership, the prime minister is Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, who is very well known for their technocratic approach.

He has a history in engineering, and he has served as head of Gecamines, the mining state-owned company. 

Thus, the focus of this prime minister is to improve economic reforms and governance.

The position of minister of finance will be held by former senior advisor to President Flix Tshisekedi, who brings extensive experience in economic management as well as international finance. The expected duty of this minister is to work on making certain that foreign investment is secured, spread financial reforms, and tackle inflation.

Christophe Lutundula, Minister of Foreign Affairs In the DRC, Lutundula has a lengthy background in politics and diplomacy. 

His selection signals a continuation of the nation’s foreign policy, which emphasises fortifying relations with international allies and neighbouring nations. 

Daniel Aselo Okito, Minister of Interior, has a reputation for taking a firm stand on public order and security and will be in charge of internal security, which includes leading the police and resolving internal disputes. 
It is anticipated that his experience in law enforcement will be extremely important in bringing stability to the eastern areas.

The Minister of Defence Former military officer Gilbert Kabanda oversees modernising the armed forces and resolving persistent security issues in the eastern provinces, and he has military experience.
