(The Post News)- The Free State stadium in Bloemfontein will come alive as South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana will host their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, June 11.
Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, is confident in his team’s abilities, saying, “We have prepared well for this match, and the boys are ready to give it their all.”
When asked about Zimbabwe’s chances, Broos replied, “They are a tough opponent, but we are focused on our game plan.”
Zimbabwe’s coach, Norman Mapeza, is also optimistic about his team’s chances, stating, “We have a good team, and we are ready to give Bafana Bafana a run for their money.”
Mapeza added, “Our players are hungry for victory, and we will do everything possible to get the three points.”
Fans from both countries are eagerly looking forward to the match, with many predicting a thrilling encounter. “I think Bafana Bafana will win 2-0,” said Sipho, a Bafana Bafana supporter. “Zimbabwe is a tough team, but our boys have the skill and determination to come out on top.”
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean fan, Tendai, believes his team will upset the hosts, saying, “We have a strong team, and I think we will win 1-0.”
Coach Hugo Broos acknowledges that Group C is a challenging one, and he’s wary of underestimating Zimbabwe. While he’s eager to secure a win, he recognizes the difficulty of the task. “We need the three points against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, and I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get them,’ Broos said.
Despite the group not boasting the highest-ranked teams, it’s brimming with formidable opponents. This clash is set to be a thrilling showdown, with Zimbabwe and Bafana Bafana fiercely determined to claim victory.
South African Football Association (SAFA), acting CEO Thulani Ngwenya urges supporters to pack the stadium.
“We’re excited for this match in Bloemfontein, and we urge fans to come out in full force to support the team. Fans play a crucial role for the players, and a packed Free State Stadium would provide an incredible boost for them,” Dr Ngwenya said.
This highly anticipated match marks the return of the South African senior men’s national team to Bloemfontein for the first time since their thrilling 2-1 victory over France in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Kick-off is at 6:00 p.m. SAST and supporters are encouraged to arrive early to soak up the pre-match atmosphere.
