(The Post News)- World Cup Qualifying for Africa on Friday, had the internet blowing up over the weekend. Nigeria was hosting South Africa at one of their respective stadiums, Estadio Abuya.
The two teams are falling under group C which includes Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin, Zimbabwe, and then Nigeria and South Africa. They were all participating in round 3.
The match between Nigeria and South Africa started at 9:00 pm. By halftime, Bafana Bafana was leading 1-0. The lead was secured in the 29th minute by Themba “Mshishi” Zwane, who scored from a free kick that struck the inside of the woodwork.
In the second half, the Super Eagles levelled the play in the first minute. Fisayo Bashiru got past Mothobi Mvala and beat Ronwen Williams with a low shot, making the score 1-1.
The battle continued with both teams missing chances. Percy Tau found space and received a pass from Iqraam Rayners, but he couldn’t convert the opportunity.
“Percy in the club team is very good. But in the national team, nah! He is not there at all, he doesn’t give it his all,” commented Ntate Junior on a Facebook post, reflecting his frustration.
But Pitso ‘Sir Jingles’ Mosimane, stood up for him in Lorenzi Kohler’s interview stating that “Percy has more medals than any player in South Africa. He played for the FIFA World Cup more than three times.”
“Playing for a good team with good players who always carry you to win medals has got nothing to do with individual performance. Some so many average players have won top medals without even playing, Tau is useless period” replied Tom Maisa, a frustrated football fan.
The underdog team of group C, Lesotho is holding the first pole having five points, Rwanda, Benin and South Africa four each, Nigeria three and Zimbabwe two.
