(The Post News)- Cape Town Spurs announced the reinstatement of coach Ernest ‘Mazinyo’ Middendorp as the club’s head coach.
The reinstatement comes after the club CEO, Alexi Efstathiou, confirmed in a statement on June 3 that they had mutually agreed with Mazinyo to terminate their working relationship with immediate effect.
The club is now pleased to welcome the coach back for what he calls his ‘impossible mission.’ He will be leading the team in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
His return shows turn of events how Mazinyo is fully invested with the Urban Warriors.
“I bought into the vision of the club from day one. The picture that the board put in front of me, really excited me and we had started implementing the plans with the intention on building on this in the new season” stated Mazinyo on the club’s statement.
He further expressed “Unfortunately, we were a couple of points short at the end and were relegated. The challenge of the project however remained in my mind even though the club and I decided to part ways”.
“When I returned to Cape Town on Friday, I received a call from the directors to meet up for breakfast. We were able to carve a way through the obstacles that were originally there. I requested the board to try keep the squad together and not sell players unless they received really strong offers,” stated Mazinyo.
Middendorp concluded by stating that he is happy that they are able to continue from where they left off and deliver together with the board and the club.
The club was introduced to DStv Premiership League season 2023/24 this year. Unfortunately, the end of the season saw the club at the bottom of the table, which automatically relegated the club to the lower division.
