(The Post News)- The African National Congress (ANC) announced their newly elected Premier, Dr. Phophi Constance Ramathuba.
Outgoing as the MEC of Health in Limpopo, Ramathuba is succeeding Stanley Chupu Mathabatha as Limpopo’s newly elected Premier.
She is going to be the first woman since the dawn of democracy to be Premier of the province where the ANC holds a majority in the provincial legislature.
Ramathuba was among the other candidates who were interviewed by the ANC national officials, all of whom were observed by the chairperson of the ANC, Kgalema Motlanthe.
During her acceptance speech, she outlined her vision for the future of the province.
“I am humbled and grateful to accept the responsibility entrusted to me as the Premier of this great province. I am deeply honoured for the opportunity to lead Limpopo towards a future of progress, prosperity, and unity,” Ramathuba added.
She continued by calling upon the members to uphold their roles with diligence.
“I call upon the members of this legislature to uphold their oversight role with diligence and dedication, ensuring that the administration of Limpopo serves the best interests of all its citizens,” she said.
This historic move by the ANC will see the province led for the first time by a woman with impressive credentials, including experience as a medical doctor and tenure as MEC of Health since 2015 in Limpopo.
