(The Post News)- Tim Sukazi, as promised, fulfilled his promise with veteran Vuyo Mere and Barker Parker. The duo is set to be given coach roles in the TS Galaxy DStv Diski Challenge (DDC). Then Ashley Makhanya, who headed the DDC squad, will now focus solely on being the Head of Development.
The club’s chairman, Sukazi, had said in the past that they would support experienced players who have a keen interest in coaching, tapping into their valuable experience in the game, according to reports by the iDiski Times.
Parker hangs up his boots at the age of 38, concluding a career that included experiences with reputable clubs and the national squad. The player is exiting with a legacy of resilience, having returned to the pitch before the end of last season after his leg got broken.
However, Mere was seen as a substitute player at TS Galaxy without playing. The 40-year-old veteran on the bench gleaned knowledge from the technical team. He has also been associated with numerous clubs in the country, including the national squad.
TS Galaxy has been exceptional this season, setting records across the country. Their remarkable journey began with a historic victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final in 2019, clinched by Zakhele Lepasa’s last-gasp penalty in injury time.
The DStv Premiership Soccer League 2023/24 ended with the club in position six with 44 points. So far, it is great progress for a team to be in the top eight of the log.
