(The Post News)- Anne, Princess Royal, a stalwart figure in the British royal family, was hospitalised following a horse-related incident on the evening of June 23, 2024, at the Gatcombe Park estate, according to Buckingham Palace.
The 73-year-old royal suffered head injuries and a concussion, necessitating immediate medical attention.
In a statement released on Monday, June 24, Buckingham Palace confirmed the incident and Princess Anne’s hospitalization at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, England.
Her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, briefly addressed the press outside the hospital on Wednesday, morning, confirming her slow but steady recovery.
“Recovering slowly, thank you,” Sir Timothy responded when asked about Princess Anne’s condition, mentioning that he had brought a few items from home to comfort her.
The accident occurred during an evening stroll on the grounds of Gatcombe Park estate, where Princess Anne was accompanied by her husband and their children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips.
Emergency services attended to her on-site before transferring her to Southmead Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Her current hospitalisation aims to monitor her condition closely, per her spokesperson.
Due to medical advice, Princess Anne has postponed her upcoming engagements for the week, including a state banquet at Buckingham Palace and a scheduled visit to Canada.
The Telegraph reported that she is experiencing temporary memory loss, reminiscent of a previous concussion sustained during the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, where she fell from a horse during an equestrian event.
Southmead Hospital, renowned for its neuroscience capabilities among other specialities, is overseeing her care as she navigates through recovery.
The NHS outlines that concussion, resulting from a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, can lead to symptoms such as forgetfulness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, typically requiring a few weeks for full recovery.
Despite setbacks, Princess Anne has remained dedicated to her duties, filling in for other family members during their absences and maintaining a rigorous schedule of engagements across various regions.
As developments unfold, the royal family and well-wishers await further updates on Princess Anne’s condition, hoping for a steady and complete recovery for one of the monarchy’s most resilient figures.
