(The Post News)- Mamelodi Sundowns is currently grappling with the imminent departure of key figures within their ranks. Reports indicate that star player Themba Zwane, affectionately known as “Mshishi,” and coach Rhulani Mokoena, also referred to as “Pep Lite,” are set to exit the club.
Despite having signed deals and having served a significant portion of their contracts, Sundowns are reportedly parting ways with both the iconic midfielder “Mshishi” and their coach.
The news of Mokoena’s possible departure is particularly surprising, considering he signed a four-year deal with the club just a year ago.
The South African Broadcasting Service Sport (SABC) confirm that there have been tense discussions with both parties.
Rhulani is reported to be communicating with Flemming Berg as a sporting director.
Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, and Gaston Sirino are among the exciting two.
Sundowns won the DStv Premiership League and the inaugural of the African Football League this year.
“It’s understood at the centre of this shocking development at Chloorkop is the broken working relationship between the coach and sporting director Flemming Berg,” SABC Sport reported.
The Brazilians are set to leave for Austria for the upcoming season. Regardless of whether Mokwena stays or departs, the club will proceed with their plans to go abroad.
Discussions are ongoing regarding Flemming Berg, with the possibility that he could choose to move wherever he desires. The upcoming 2024/25 transfer window might have played a role in the coach’s potential departure.
Besides the sudden departure of the head coach, it’s worth noting that Themba Zwane has become a free agent since his contract expired on June 30, 2024.
The player has been with the club since 2011, and unfortunately, they couldn’t reach an agreement once his contract ended.
