(The Post News)- Renowned South African actress Nambitha Ben-Mazwi has been announced as the host of the Cultural Connections sessions at the 2024 Essence Film Festival, taking place in New Orleans, Louisiana from July 5-7.
The Essence Film Festival, part of the prestigious ESSENCE Festival of Culture, is a celebration of global Black culture and the largest cultural, entertainment, and empowerment experience in the world.
The festival features screenings, panel discussions, networking sessions, and more, showcasing content from Black America and the African diaspora.
Ben-Mazwi, a globally acclaimed actress, will host the Cultural Connections Saturday sessions, which aim to disrupt Hollywood’s traditional view of “global” and intentionally bring opportunities for co-production, alternative financing, creative collaborations, and content partnerships.
She will also participate in “Hollywood House x EFOC” as a mentor, offering guidance to attendees.
“I am deeply honoured to represent South Africa and the broader African diaspora as the official host for the Cultural Connections sessions at the Essence Film Festival,” said Ben-Mazwi.
“This platform is not only a celebration of our cultural heritage but also a critical space for forging new paths in global storytelling and collaboration,” she added.
Ben-Mazwi’s talent and ambassadorship are positioning her as a prominent voice for South African talent on the global stage, following her success in Netflix’s Savage Beauty Season 2 and Showmax Original EMPINI.
The Essence Film Festival is a significant event in the entertainment industry, and Ben-Mazwi’s involvement is a testament to her dedication to expanding opportunities and visibility for diverse voices.
