(The Post News)- Portia Modise,(41) the former captain of the South African women’s football team, Banyana Banyana has made a heartfelt appeal to her fans to assist her in recovering her stolen vehicle.
In a video posted on Instagram, Modise recounted the terrifying experience of being hijacked outside her Soweto home, where she was held at gunpoint by a group of young men who stole her mobile phone and car keys before driving off with her vehicle.
The Portia Modise Foundation has stated that the former football star is still reeling from the traumatic incident.
Modise, who made history as the first African footballer to score 100 goals, retired from the sport in 2015.
Her bravery and achievements on the field have made her a beloved figure in South African football, and her fans are rallying around her in support.
“When I arrived home, there were a few guys who pointed firearms at me and hijacked me, I am not OK but I am grateful for life,” said Portia.
She even gave the registration details of her stolen vehicle, asking people to call her if they spotted it.
“If anybody has seen this car, it’s a blue Polo Golf that is my car,” she said.
The video post has garnered an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers, but the car remains missing.
Modise’s illustrious football career spanned over a decade, starting with her international debut at just 16 years old. She holds the record for most appearances for the South African women’s team, Banyana Banyana.
