(The Post News)- Kyiv city authorities announced that Russia launched missile strikes across the cities, including the main children’s hospital in Kyiv.
The attack occurred during daylight in Ukraine on Monday, July 9, killing at least 41 civilians and injuring 166 others in the deadliest wave of airstrikes in months.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that the Russian forces launched more than 40 missiles aiming for different cities, which resulted in damaging infrastructure, including commercial and residential buildings around Ukrainian cities.
Russia denied targeting the Kyiv hospital on Monday, arguing that it had been attacked by fragments of a Ukrainian air defence missile. However, Ukraine instead blamed Russia, as it had discovered the remnants of a Russian cruise missile.
The attack on Ukraine occurred as Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban met Chinese President Xi Jinping to elaborate on a potential Ukraine peace deal, which was also noted as an unexpected visit to Beijing.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the assault on the capital was the worst since the beginning of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky named the assault “brutal” and the Russian equivalent Vladimir Putin “bloody criminal.”
Zelensky said that Russia sent more than 40 missiles on Monday, resulting in damage to almost 100 buildings in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, including Slovakia, and Kramatorsk.
Despite the recent attacks on Ukraine, NATO is preparing to hold a summit on Tuesday in Washington, where the military bloc’s main agenda on the top list is to address the invasion of Ukraine.
The new British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, condemned the attack, saying that attacking innocent children is not right at all and promising to continue his support for Kyiv after the government changes in the UK.
World leaders allied to Ukraine also condemned the assault.
US President Joe Biden stated that additional support for Ukraine’s air defence systems would be mentioned soon.
In Ukraine, today is a day of mourning that is being observed after dozens of missiles launched by Russia attacked several cities around the country.
The attack was one of the worst waves of Russian attacks in months. Officials have banned entertainment events and lowered the flags.
