(The Post News)- President Joe Biden has given his full support and endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris to take over the presidential nomination as he withdraws from the upcoming presidential elections.
The decision has generated significant responses from various sectors, especially given the timing during the election race.
President Biden, the oldest president in U.S. history at 81, has faced concerns regarding his health and ability to perform his duties, despite reports affirming his fitness for the presidency.
These concerns were amplified during a recent debate with former President Donald Trump, where Biden’s performance was scrutinised for moments of hesitation and difficulty articulating his thoughts.
The White House press has previously reported that Biden was never diagnosed with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or any other neurological disorder. As the Presidential House stated and consistently maintained a profile of a president in good health, current developments state that the necessity of Vice President Harris would be more prominent.
Harris’s stepping up came after President Biden mentioned that he would not be accepting nominations as President of the United States for his reminder of the term, which he expressed on social media platforms such as X (formally known as Twitter).
In the post, he expressed his decision to fully support and endorse his vice president for the nomination, stating he will focus all his energy on his duties as president for the remainder of his term.
He wrote, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and will focus all my energy on my duties as president for the remainder of my term.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my vice president.
“Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”
Kamala Harris is the first woman to serve as Vice President of the United States, and she is also the first woman of black and South Asian descent to hold this office.
If she runs and wins the presidential election, she will become the first woman of black and South Asian descent to serve as President of the United States.
Although critics, activists, and supporters have mixed emotions about the development, the majority see it as what she is capable of, her readiness to take over presidential responsibilities, and more.
She thanked President Biden for his leadership and his many years of service to the United States as she accepted the endorsement.
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country.
“I am honoured to have the president’s endorsement, and I intend to earn and win this nomination,” Harris expressed. Critics are expressing concerns about her readiness to lead the country, as many are devastated by the abrupt withdrawal of President Biden.
While others are grateful for the continued services for the country that will be provided by Harris, POLITICO stated that only a third of voters assume Harris might win the election, and a quarter of independents believe she would win the election.
The scepticism goes as far as her future role as head of the party, with 42% having described Harris as a strong leader, but polls indicate that she has poor ratings as President Biden.
Biden was rated at 43% favourable and 54% unfavourable, and Harris was rated at 42% favourable and 52% unfavourable.
