On Monday, during a media briefing, ActionSA leader, rman Mashaba, announced that ActionSA will work with ANC in Johannesburg and offer its conditional support.
(The Post News)- Action South Africa (ActionSA) has declared its intentions to work with the African National Congress (ANC) in support of the governments of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
Ā
ActionSA had previously vowed to never work with the ANC and turned down the ANCās invitation to form part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Ā
However, the party has changed its tune as it is attempting to establish itself in the metropolises of Gauteng by seeking to occupy the speaker positions in the councils of Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.
Ā
In a media briefing held by ActionSA on Monday, July 22, in Joburg, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said that given that ActionSA possesses a sizable number of seats in Johannesburg, they have concluded that they cannot continue to do anything while the city continues to deteriorate to the detriment of its residents.
Ā
He added that his party will play the constructive opposition role, as it has done in Parliament, and it aims to provide its support to any administration in Johannesburg.
Ā
Mashaba clarified that ActionSA took this decision to protect the city from incompetent government, poor service delivery, and unstable political conditions, and it does not imply that ActionSA is now part of the parties that form the GNU.
Ā
ActionSA would not take up any seats in the executive, but in return for its support, ActionSA would occupy several legislative positions, affording the party the ability to hold the new government accountable.
Ā
According to Mashaba, once the formation of the new government in Johannesburg has been completed, they will move on to Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.
Ā
ActionSAās conditional support of a new government in Johannesburg is subject to three requirements, the first of which is the removal of Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda of AI Jama-ah.Ā
Ā
According to Mashaba, Mayor Gwamandaās reign has been an utter disaster, just like that of his predecessor, and he claimed that the downward spiral of Johannesburg is identifiable throughout the city.
The removal of City Powerās R200 prepaid user surcharge is the second requirement.Ā
For the third requirement, ActionSA would produce several motions to position the city to make a change in frontline service delivery issues, which include inner city redevelopment and the renewal of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the leader of Al Jama-ah, Ganief Hendricks, claimed that the plot by ActionSA to remove Gwamanda from the mayorās office was unjust and personal.
According to Hendricks, Gwamanda has surpassed himself in the role of mayor, and there is no logical reason to remove him.Ā
Ā
Furthermore, Hendricks asserted that ActionSAās demand to fire Gwamanda is driven more by political point-scoring than by dissatisfaction with his work.
Ā
āI can understand why they do not want Gwamanda because they do not want to be pursued,” Hendricks stated.Ā
Ā
He added that ActionSA is guilty of crimes against the state.f MayorĀ
