(The Post News)- Pitso Mosimane, South Africa’s legendary football coach, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg (UJ), recognizing his exceptional contributions to the sport and his commitment to excellence.
The ceremony took place at the university’s Auckland Park campus on Wednesday, July 24.
Hours before the event, UJ posted on social media to write “The University of Johannesburg will today confer an honorary doctorate on Pitso Mosimane, celebrated coach and football manager.”
This honour recognises his exceptional contributions to the sport and his commitment to excellence and innovation.
Sir Jingles is a former coach for the South African men’s national squad “Bafana Bafana”.
He led the club from 2010 to 2012. During his tenure with Bafana Bafana, the squad qualified for the 2012 African Cup of Nations finals.
Coach Mosimane is known for his exceptional records in football.
He is known as the man who built the great Mamelodi Sundowns, a club that has dominated the South African league and competed strongly in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions.
Under his leadership, Masandawana achieved significant success, winning the PSL five times, the Nedbank Cup twice, the Telkom Knockout once, the CAF Champions League once, and the CAF Super Cup once.
He also coached the African Club of the Century from the Egyptian side, Al Ahly Football Club.
During his time with the club, they won the Egyptian league once and won two CAF Champions League, and also earned two bronze medals at the FIFA World Cup.
Mosimane is now a free agent, having recently concluded his tenure at Abah FC in the Saudi Pro League. His mission there was to rescue the club from relegation—a task that proved to be insurmountable, and ultimately, he was unable to succeed.
“People say is being ahead”, said coach Pitso in a post-interview with Palesa Ramafola on UJourneys YouTube channel.
Mosimane also runs the Pitso Mosimane Soccer School, which aims to develop the players of tomorrow.
The school offers a soccer development program for boys and girls aged 6 to 15 years old, focusing on nurturing young talent and providing them with essential skills and training.
