Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel’s action against the Gaza conflict during his speech address to the Congress lawmakers in the US.
(The Post News)- On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel defended his actions in the ongoing conflict with Gaza during his speech at the US Congress.
The Israeli leader was met with a raucous reception from mainly Republican politicians when he delivered his fourth speech during a joint session of the US Congress on Wednesday.
Thousands of protesters gathered on the streets outside the US Capitol to voice their concerns and attempt to prevent Netanyahu from delivering his address.
Addressing the protesters, Netanyahu stated, “You have formally become Iran’s useful idiots.”
The increase in political divisions regarding the war in Gaza was evident as dozens of Democratic members of Congress purposely boycotted Netanyahu’s speech.
Netanyahu stated that when Israel goes against Iran, they are going against the most radical and murderous enemies of the United States of America.
He added, “Our war is your war, and our win will become your win as well.” Praising US support for Israel’s conflict in Gaza.
However, Netanyahu provided little information regarding the ceasefire negotiations while addressing a raucous joint session of the US Congress, which was boycotted by dozens of Democratic lawmakers.
According to police, five people were taken into custody inside the Capitol building for allegedly attempting to disrupt Netanyahu’s speech.
Several standing applauses could not hide the fact that at least 39 lawmakers were away from the speech.
He expressed gratitude to the US for giving Israel “generous military help” for decades, adding that in return, Israel had given the US critical intelligence that had “saved a lot of lives.”
Netanyahu did not elaborate on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza in detail, except to state that Israel had provided enough food aid to supply each person with 3,000 calories.
He argued that if Gaza’s residents were not receiving the food, it was because Hamas was stealing it from them.
In addition to his fiery speech in the House chamber, Netanyahu praised the “total success” in the 9-month conflict, dashing hopes that he would announce progress regarding a ceasefire or the release of Israeli hostages ahead of his meetings with Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday.
