A groundbreaking survey by 1st For Women reveals Limpopo as the safest province for women, with a staggering 92.11% safety score.
(The Post News)- In a pioneering study, 1st For Women, a leading insurance provider, uncovered a startling truth: only 3.6% of South African women feel secure in their province of residence. The comprehensive survey, “Let’s Talk About Safety,” engaged 6,596 women, delving into their perceptions of safety in various contexts.
The findings revealed a stark reality: an overwhelming majority of women feel vulnerable in everyday situations. However, Limpopo emerged as a beacon of hope, scoring an impressive 92.11 out of 100 as the safest province for women. Mpumalanga and the North West followed closely, with scores of 68.53 and 67.45, respectively.
Limpopo’s exceptional safety record is attributed to its low crime rate, with the fewest reported cases of serious crimes, murders, assaults, and property crimes. The province also boasted the lowest number of women feeling unsafe and the fewest victims of crime, aligning with recent Victims of Crime surveys.
By combining their survey results with the 2023 South African Police Service crime statistics, 1st For Women aimed to empower women to make informed decisions about their living, working, and studying environments. While the index only reflects reported crime and women’s perceptions, it provides valuable insights for women seeking to minimize their risk of victimization and maximize their sense of safety.
This groundbreaking study underscores the need for continued efforts to enhance women’s safety and security across South Africa. By shedding light on the safest provinces, 1st For Women paves the way for a more secure future for women nationwide.
