Moroadi Cholota, Ace Magashule’s former personal assistant, appeared in the Free State Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where her bail application was postponed until Tuesday to allow the state to finalise its opposition to the bail application and submission.
(The Post News)- Moroadi Cholota, the former personal of former Free State Premier Ace Magashule, appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Monday, 12 August. The case was postponed to Tuesday to give the state time to finalize its opposition on the bail application and submission.
Cholota is facing fraud and corruption charges in connection with the notorious R255 million Free State asbestos corruption case. This case, which has received national attention, is set to reconvene at the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein from April 15 to June 23, 2025, and involves 18 defendants, including five companies.
Cholota had spent four months behind bars following her arrest in the US, and on Thursday, August 8, Cholota was moved from the US to South Africa following her attempts to prevent her extradition. She arrived at OR Tambo International Airport escorted by law enforcement and was then turned over to the Hawks and was taken to Bloemfontein on Friday after spending the night at Pretoria’s Brooklyn Police Station.
In court, Advocate Loyiso Makapela, who is Cholota’s legal representative, claimed that she should not spend another day in jail because her co-accused have not. Moreover, Cholota’s stepfather, Happy Tilotsane, alleged that she was treated unfairly because she refused to become a state witness.
According to Tilotsane, Cholota was merely a PA, and it has been said for several years that there is no case against her. He added that he fails to understand how the “big fish are jumping out of the water” while the state is chasing sardines. Cholota will remain in police custody for another night until her bail application on Tuesday morning.
