The courtroom hangs on every word as retired Colonel Lambertus delivers a groundbreaking testimony in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
(The Post News)- On August 12, the Pretoria High Court heard compelling testimony that shed light on the tragic Senzo Meyiwa murder case in the ongoing trial.
A retired cellphone data analyst, Colonel Lambertus Steyn, presented crucial evidence from analyses done on cellphone communications leading up to the incident.
The crucial testimony linked Kelly Khumalo, Meyiwa’s girlfriend, to one of the accused.
Colonel Steyn, who is a seasoned expert in cellphone data analysis, took the stand and explained the significance of a device’s boot-up sequence, suggesting an attempt to delete all information from a cellphone.
In a detailed account, he explained the importance of a ‘device boot’ which is a term indicating attempts to erase all information from a cellphone.
He revealed that Khumalo rebooted the phone at 01:31:38 AM, shortly after the incident. Accounting for the data download time, the actual time was adjusted to 03:31:38 AM.
The Colonel’s analysis combined two EXO spreadsheets from section 205, emphasising the importance of correlating the cellphone download with the spreadsheet data.
In a conclusive statement, Colonel Lambertus confirmed that there was communication between Kelly Khumalo and suspect number 5 on August 2 2014, and October 15, using the Internet.
The communication between Khumalo and the accused, coupled with the attempts to delete and reboot the cellphone, suggest a potential cover-up or tampering with evidence.
This new information adds another layer of complexity to an already intricate case.
