(The Post News)- Stellenbosch Football Club’s remarkable improvement has grabbed attention not only from supporters. Scouting managers from different teams have shown interest in the club players.
Orlando Pirates have recently confirmed the signing of 27-year-old Stellenbosch captain Deano Van Rooyen. The player completed a permanent transfer agreement with the Buccaneers after eight years of service with the Stellies.
Mamelodi Sundowns also nabbed a notable striker from the Stellies. Manqoba Mnqithi’s interest in Iqraam Rayners was also granted by Masandawana, confirming the signing of the Stellenbosch forward.
Stellenbosch FC was a very strong opponent to face in the last DStv Premiership competitions. The club attained position two in the DStv Premiership League, gaining a spot to compete in the Confederation African Football.
The release of Rayners for Masandawana has had the fan base label Stellenbosch unfair. Apparently, the club denied the forward to the Kaizer Chiefs by demanding more than R15 million, but with the Brazilians, it only needed Ten-million rand.
Amakhosi have been complaining of being charged more for players’ interest, whereas some clubs buy cheap. They claim that it is the reason they always miss out on their interested players.
Stellenbosch is set to compete for the league, domestic cups, and CAF. The sale of notable players raises concern about securing victory as expected.
Their last game of Sunday, August 4th, saw them come from 1-nil down to secure victory over TS Galaxy by 3-1 in the MTN-8 Cup quarterfinal game. The two purchased players, Van Rooyen and Rayners, were available.
