Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old former Miss South Africa finalist, has accepted the offer to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant organised by the Silver Bird Group.
Â
(The Post News)- Following her decision to pull out of the Miss South Africa beauty pageant competition, Chidimma Adetshina (23) has accepted an invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria.
Â
Adetshina announced her withdrawal from the Miss SA competition a week ago, just a few days before the competition’s finale ceremony, citing the safety of herself and her family as one of the reasons for her decision.
Â
Her decision to pull out of the competition came after a preliminary investigation by Home Affairs that raised concerns about her citizenship.Â
Â
Home Affairs discovered prima facie evidence that her mother allegedly committed identity fraud 23 years ago.
With her mother being from Mozambique and her father from Nigeria, many South Africans were dissatisfied with her status as a prestigious Miss SA.
Â
A week ago, in response to the recent events on social media, Silverbird Group, the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant organisers, released a statement requesting that Adetshina participate in their competition.
Â
They stated that this is an opportunity for her to represent her father’s homeland on a worldwide platform.
Â
Adetshina took to Instagram to declare that she has accepted the invitation and will compete in the competition.
Â
She posted a video accompanied by a form statement expressing her excitement over her decision to take part in the competition and conveyed her gratitude to the organisers of Miss Universe Nigeria for extending her the invitation.
Â
Some Nigerian citizens turned to social media to express their concerns about the situation, claiming that it is unfair to the other candidates because they had to go through all the appropriate steps and procedures to become finalists, whereas she receives a special invitation.Â
Â
Others stated that she has spent her entire life in South Africa and knows nothing about Nigeria, while some went so far as to say that she does not even have any documents proving that she is Nigerian.
