(The Post News)- Zolani Matthews, CEO of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), has been dismissed for the third time.
This decision follows a recent labour court ruling that his contract was still active and ordered his reinstatement.
The announcement of Zolani Matthews’ termination was made on Thursday, and it was noted that the board had compensated him for the remainder of his term.
According to sources, Matthews’ contract was terminated due to internal conflicts and disagreements with the PRASA Board of Control.
The exact reasons for his termination have not been disclosed, but it is understood that his departure is part of a broader effort to revamp the agency’s leadership and ensure good governance.
Transport Minister Barbara Creecy endorsed the decision, emphasising the importance of stable leadership to restore the passenger rail system.
Minister Creecy has expressed confidence in the current leadership, particularly Group Chief Executive Officer Hishaam Emeran, who has been instrumental in turning around the agency over the past 18 months.
With Matthews’ departure, the Minister hopes to see continued progress in revitalising PRASA and improving services for commuters.
The firing of Matthews marks a significant development in PRASA’s efforts to address internal challenges and restore the passenger rail system to full capacity.
As the agency moves forward, Minister Creecy remains committed to ensuring accountability and good governance in all transport entities.
