Dihlabeng residents are urged to use water more sparingly during this drying period to avoid ending up having no water at all for consumption.
(The Post News)- Residents of Bohlokong, Paul Roux, and Rosendal in the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, Free State, are bracing for prolonged water shortages as an ongoing outage at the Saulsproot Water Treatment Works and Raw Water pump station continues to leave their taps dry.
The current situation commenced on Wednesday and left the municipality with no choice but to close the water supply at 18:00.
“In light of the crisis that we are currently facing, water supply to the community will be closed around 18:00 and be opened again at 6:00. This will be done continuously until the situation stabilises and the levels are acceptably high,” according to Tshediso Maitse, the municipal marketing and communications manager.
Maitse emphasised that the municipality’s electricity team is working tirelessly to restore the power supply.
“As soon as the power restoration is completed successfully, the municipality will issue an update,” said Maitse.
He further told The Post News that the municipality will continue to monitor the situation should any matter arise.
He requested that members of the community start immediately using water more sparingly as the water capacity in the dam stands at 60 megalitres.
Meanwhile, the Saulspoort Water Treatment Dam is going to be temporarily closed at the beginning of October by the National Department of Water and Sanitation to allow the maintenance process of water tunnels where cracks, rust, and leaks will be the main focus.
