95 Libyan nationals are deported on Sunday via Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga.
(The Post News)- The South African Department of Home Affairs executed the deportation of 95 Libyan nationals who were apprehended at a suspected clandestine military training facility last month. The group was initially detained by law enforcement in July for allegedly engaging in paramilitary activities in White River, Mpumalanga province. However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew charges against them on Thursday, citing insufficient evidence to secure convictions for violating immigration regulations.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Department of Home Affairs announced the successful culmination of the deportation process, revealing that the Libyan government had sponsored the flight. The aircraft departed from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, marking the end of the saga.
Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber commended the officials involved in the operation, stating, “I applaud the tireless efforts of our home affairs personnel and law enforcement agencies in ensuring a swift and efficient deportation process. We will continue to mobilize all necessary resources to uphold the integrity of our immigration laws.”
The home affairs department had previously revoked the visas of the Libyan nationals, citing falsifications in their applications, which claimed they intended to receive training as security personnel. Meanwhile, the NPA has vowed to pursue investigations against the masterminds, organizers, and financiers behind the alleged military training operation.”
