(The Post News)- Russia has launched a fresh onslaught against Ukraine, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. The latest wave of strikes, which began on Monday morning, has claimed multiple lives, underscored Moscow’s unyielding resolve, and sounded a clarion call for enhanced Western support.
As air raid alerts pierced the morning calm, Ukrainian monitors detected the telltale signs of Russian aircraft unleashing hypersonic missiles upon their targets. The ensuing hours would prove catastrophic, as civilian infrastructure facilities in the eastern city of Kryvyi Rih came under withering attack. The human toll was grim: two lives lost, numerous missing, and countless more left to pick up the pieces.
In the city of Zaporizhzhia, Ivan Fedorov, the head of the regional administration, reported a single fatality and two injuries, a somber testament to the war’s unrelenting ferocity. Elsewhere, explosions rocked the regions of Mykolayiv, Khmelnytsky, Sumy, and Kyiv, a chilling reminder of Russia’s capacity for widespread devastation.
This latest round of attacks comes on the heels of one of Russia’s most significant airstrikes against Ukraine, which claimed at least seven lives, inflicted scores of injuries, and plunged vast swaths of the country into darkness. The deployment of hypersonic Kinzhal ballistic missiles, notoriously difficult for air defenses to intercept, has only served to exacerbate the sense of unease.
Ukrainian President Zelensky, his voice laced with urgency, has implored Western allies to expedite the provision of long-range weapons, arguing that such capabilities are essential to countering Russia’s aerial dominance. By targeting airfields, planes, and ammunition stores deeper within Russian territory, Ukraine hopes to diminish Moscow’s capacity for terrorizing its skies.
