Community members gathered at Jukulyn hall block x during the crime prevention event to engage and help combat crimes in the area
(The Post News)- Jukulyn, a area in Soshanguve, is known for its high rate of crime. It’s a place where criminals roam freely, committing crimes in broad daylight and at night. The area has become a hotspot for robberies, assaults, and other violent crimes.
Even police officers are afraid to patrol the streets, as they’ve been attacked by criminals in the past. Churches, which are supposed to be safe spaces, have also been targeted by criminals. They rob church members during services and even attack them. The community is living in fear.
To address the escalating crime rate, the Tshwane District Social Crime Officer, in collaboration with the Community Police Forum and local church leaders, organized a crime prevention event in Jukulyn. The event aimed to bring together community members, youth, and spiritual leaders to find solutions to the area’s crime problem.
The event aimed to strengthen spiritual social crime prevention efforts. Foster church-SAPS collaboration. Engage the community in finding solutions. Enhance partnerships to reduce crime and reaffirm SAPS’s commitment to safety.
Pastor Prince Mathebula, a respected voice in the community, expressed the dire need for collective action, “Churches are now afraid to host gatherings, fearing for their lives. It’s up to us to take initiative and ensure a safer Jukulyn.”Tshwane District Community Policing Board Chairman Themba Mlotshwa addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for collective action.
He announced the introduction of suggestion boxes, where community members could share anonymous tips to help police identify and apprehend criminals. Mlotshwa also issued a stern warning to corrupt officers, “If you’re not careful, crime will hit your doorstep.”
He urged police to work diligently and respectfully, emphasizing the need for trust between law enforcement and the community.Tebogo Raseroka, a patroller and Ward 27 committee member, also urged Jukulyn residents to arm themselves with whistles during the Spiritual Crime Prevention event, encouraging them to blow the whistle on crime and alert their neighbors to potential dangers.
