(The Post News)– The MTN8 match between Cape Town City and the Orlando Pirates has been postponed, according to information obtained by The Post News. The reason for the postponement is Cape Town’s weather.
The first leg of the semi-final between the Citizens and the Buccaneers was supposed to take place at DHL Stadium on Tuesday, August 27 at 19:00. As far as this publication is aware, the game will now take place on Wednesday at 18:00 because of the Mother City’s continuous, strong winds and rain. The news were confirmed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on their X page.
While clubs have been busy with their preseason preparations, the weather in Cape Town has presented obstacles in recent weeks. The effect of the weather has been brought up by both Steve Barker of Stellenbosch FC and Eric Tinkler of CT City.
The World Rugby U20 Championship, which took place in world-class football stadiums, had an impact on the fields’ state, but excessive rain has also had a big influence. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Stellenbosch FC will now host its CAF Champions League and MTN-8 second leg matches against Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
At 15:00 on Saturday, August 31, Orlando Stadium will host the second leg of the Orlando Pirates vs. Cape Town City match. Having won the last two tournaments, the Jose Riveiro led team will be looking to raise the trophy for a record tying third time.
Under Benni McCarthy’s direction, City last won the MTN-8 in 2018. They also last participated in the championship game, losing to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2021.
