(The Post News)- Cape Town, August 27, 2024 On Tuesday, the South African Weather Service issued an adverse weather warning for Cape Town due to severe weather, including strong gusts and torrential rain.
The warning, which was sent out early on the day, told locals to stay inside and keep away from needless travel since gale-force winds and possible flooding were predicted.The effects of the weather were evident all around the city in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
At Access Park Shopping Centre, a commonly utilised shopping attraction in Kenilworth, there was a spectacular occurrence where strong winds toppled a big gantry structure, causing substantial damage and prompting concerns regarding safety. Witnesses at the site stated that high winds were the reason behind the building’s collapse.”There were no injuries reported,” stated Adnan, the center’s manager.
It is anticipated that the extreme weather will continue throughout the week, possibly resulting in additional damage and inconveniences, according to the South African Weather Service.In order to quickly respond to any problems, the city’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has been placed on high alert and is working with multiple emergency agencies.
According to Charlotte Powell, the city’s disaster risk management spokesperson, “the public is urged to secure objects on their properties that could be carried by the wind, like outside furniture, and to be mindful of potential damage to garage doors, sliding doors, and windows.”Authorities in Cape Town are on guard and ready to deal with any future emergencies as the city weathers the storm.
