(The Post News)- Colleen Makhubele, the president of the South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA), has stepped down to join the uMkhonto WeSizwe Party. Makhubele released a media statement on Thursday morning, confirming her departure from SARA to join the MK party.
According to her, the MK party will lead South Africa into the future, advancing African society and bringing about positive change. In terms of party policies, Makhubele believes what SARA advocates for and what the MK party advocates for are extremely comparable, with the MK party having a stronger chance of success.
Furthermore, SARA was established as an ally, bringing together minority and black parties to confront societal issues. With SARA failing to meet its goals in this year’s elections, Makhubele emphasized the importance of supporting the MK party’s vision, stating that the initial goal they set when forming SARA may be fulfilled more quickly within the MK party framework.
According to Makhubele, the time for “little parties along tribal or racial lines” is passed because little parties cannot change the trajectory of a black child, transform communities, or tackle poverty, unemployment, and inequity.
All these societal challenges must be addressed collectively. Makhubele has followed in the footsteps of former members of the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) like Mzwanele Manyi and Deputy President Floyd Shivambu, who both left their parties to join the MK party.Â
