Nketoana municipality’s Cooperative Services Director, Disebo Motaung is to be investigated for the leaked WhatsApp group chat.
(The Post News)- The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State welcomes the decision of the Nketoana local municipality to implement an investigation into the irresponsible and dangerous remarks made by the Director of Corporate Service, Disebo Motaung for the leaked WhatsApp chat intended for the municipal senior managers.
In a council seating held on Thursday, 29 August 2024, the council unanimously adopted the DA proposal to subject the Director to an independent investigation in line with regulations applicable to senior managers and the code of conduct for staff members.
This follows the leaked WhatsApp group chat intended for the management where Motaung made a deeply concerning statement: “We are exposed to danger; we need guns, that’s all. The best is to kill the Boers.”
Speaking to the Post News earlier about this matter, Anelia Smith, the DA PR councillor said, “We find such a statement, particularly from a senior official entrusted with serving the broader community, to be entirely unacceptable and highly irresponsible. We condemn any form of speech that promotes violence or discrimination.”
Smit added that as the director of the municipality, Motaung holds a position of significant influence and responsibility. “Her words carry weight, and the expression of such violence sometimes poses a serious threat to social cohesion.
Smit further says public officials are expected to act as custodians of peace and unity, promoting values that foster harmony within the community.
Furthermore, she says statements like these are not only inflammatory but also have the potential to incite real-world violence. They can contribute to an environment of fear and division, further escalating tension within the community.
