(The Post News)- Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo have not received nominations for the Balloon d’Or for the first time since 2003. For this new holder, it is the end of an era.
Football fans have been debating which of the two stars is the best, creating a rivalry between them. Ronaldo is the owner of five titles, while Messi has eight. Fans continue to dispute over which player is the more exceptional of the two, despite the disparity in title possession.
Last season, both of the attackers left European football: Ronaldo left for Saudi Arabia, while Messi moved to America. Even so, their exit from the teams they played for left a big void.
However, they currently struggle with recognition on the clubs they play for.
2020 saw it not be awarded, and Lionel Messi continued to hold it for the year 2023 while he awaited the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. In 2018, the Women’s Ballon d’Or Feminin was launched.
