In a terrible crash on Monday afternoon on the M1 South near Houghton in Johannesburg, one person died and two were hospitalised with serious injuries.
(The Post News)- A deadly multiple-car crash that occurred on Monday afternoon, September 9, on the M1 South near Houghton, Johannesburg, has left one person dead and two others hospitalized with serious injuries.
The accident, which occurred around 1:40 p.m. close to the Houghton Drive off-ramp, involved three cars and a pedestrian.According to officials, the crash occurred when a white Mahindra pickup truck heading north struck a pedestrian walking across the freeway.
After colliding with a white Suzuki Vitara, the Mahindra drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed with a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck on the freeway’s southbound side. Unfortunately, the collision claimed the life of a male passenger in the Toyota, while the female driver, who suffered significant injuries, was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
While the pedestrian, a female, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the Mahindra pickup driver escaped the crash with minor injuries.
Motorists were encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid traffic after the accident caused the Johannesburg Metro Police Department to close all southbound lanes while emergency officials cleared the scene and assisted the victims of the collision. Later in the day, traffic resumed; however, the collision created significant delays in the afternoon.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and the circumstances that led to the collision are being investigated by Hillbrow police officers.
Meanwhile, approximately 20 pupils were injured on Tuesday morning as a taxi flipped on the M27 near Waterloo in Durban. After being stabilized on scene, pupils were transferred to the hospital for further medical assistance.
