Intelligence-driven operation yields results as police apprehend alleged hitman and accomplices in connection with Gcinithemba Ndila’s murder, sending a strong message against taxi-related violence
(The Post News)- South African Police Service (SAPS) task team deployed to combat taxi-related violence in the OR Tambo District has achieved a major breakthrough, arresting five suspects, including a suspected hitman, in connection with the murder of 50-year-old Gcinithemba Ndila. The successful operation, which spanned two days, also resulted in the seizure of two firearms, including an automatic R4 rifle with ammunition.
Ndila’s life was tragically cut short when he was fatally shot in Lusikisiki last week. However, swift action by the police, fueled by intelligence gathering, led to the apprehension of the first suspect on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The suspect, aged 25-32, led authorities to his residence, where two firearms – a Star 9mm pistol with ammunition and an automatic rifle with ammunition – were discovered.
The suspect faces charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, while forensic evidence is being processed to determine potential links to other taxi-related shooting incidents. Significantly, Ndila’s cellphone was also recovered during the operation.
Further investigation led to the arrest of four additional suspects, bringing the total number of apprehended individuals to five. All suspects will appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 16, 2024, to face murder charges, with one suspect facing additional charges under the Firearms Control Act.
This breakthrough serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to eradicate taxi-related violence in the region. The OR Tambo District task team’s tireless efforts demonstrate that justice will be served, and perpetrators will be held accountable.
As the community breathes a collective sigh of relief, authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding taxi-related violence to come forward. The successful operation sends a resounding message: law enforcement will not tolerate violence and will work tirelessly to ensure public safety.
