(The Post News)- Members of the Welkom Public Order Policing unit, led by Warrant Officer Thabo Booy, have arrested two suspects and recovered a cache of suspected stolen livestock. The successful operation was sparked by a tip-off from a concerned resident, demonstrating the vital role that citizens play in combating crime.
On September 12, 2024, at approximately 17:00, the police received actionable intelligence from a vigilant resident regarding suspected stolen livestock hidden near Oppenheimer Park Gold Course in Welkom. Warrant Officer Booy and his team sprang into action, operationalizing the information and descending upon the scene.
Upon arrival, the police found two men, matching the description provided by the informer, in possession of five cattle and five calves. When questioned, the suspects failed to produce valid documentation to justify their possession of the livestock, raising suspicions of theft.
